Hello & Welcome
Kia Ora, hello and welcome to The Mustard Jumper. I thought that for my very first piece of writing I would let you know a little bit about who I am and the heart behind my store and blog.
I’m Danni (Danielle). I am 28 years young and live in a beautiful beachside community in Christchurch, New Zealand. I love summer and tend to want to hibernate in winter. I absolutely hate olives with a passion but will eat a block of Whittakers chocolate in one sitting. I love fitness (I currently go to 9 Round Kickboxing gym), drink too much coffee and surf as much as I possibly can.
I first launched The Mustard Jumper on Instagram (check me out here) in May 2018. Thrift shopping (or op-shopping as we call it in NZ) has always been something I love doing. For me there is no greater feeling than finding one-off, well-made vintage goods and this meant that I could continue doing it without becoming a hoarder. I started off by selling clothes and along the way have expanded to selling homewares and using my platform to promote NZ/AUS companies who are choosing to sell their products ethically and sustainably. Growing up I never considered myself to be a creative however, creating content and a (peachy) aesthetic is something I find a lot of pleasure in, so being able to do that while also running my own business has been really fun.
The other side to The Mustard Jumper is my story. I share a lot of my personal life on my Instagram and hope that this space right here, will allow me to talk more about issues and topics that open up a conversation. Just over two years ago I left a marriage where I was being emotionally abused. This is a term I knew nothing about and it was only when I got free and started to process what my life had been, that I realised how important honesty, openness and talking about the ‘real stuff’ in life is. There will be a lot of that here and I’m really looking forward to getting into the nitty gritty of life.
So to sum me up…
The Mustard Jumper is here to inspire the every day girl that there are other options when it comes to consuming fashion and beauty. Options that do not have a negative impact on our environment and the people in it. It is here to raise awareness and talk about “taboo” topics and hopefully create a community where people are less afraid to be raw and honest about their experiences.
AHHHHHH so that’s it! My very first blogpost. Thank you so much for reading and for your support. Can’t wait to chat more,
Aroha nui,
Danni xx
